Privacy Policy

Our Commitment to Privacy

At Cancer Crowdsource, protecting your privacy is one of our highest priorities. We understand the sensitive nature of cancer treatment information and have designed our system to maintain the highest level of privacy while still enabling the anonymous sharing of valuable treatment experiences.

How We Protect Your Privacy

Anonymous Registration Options

We offer multiple registration options to accommodate different privacy preferences:

  • Username Registration: Create an account with only a username and password. No email required.
  • Enhanced Privacy Registration: Register without any identifying information using a secure token. This method allows complete anonymity while still maintaining access to your data.
  • Magic Link Authentication: For those who choose to provide an email, we offer passwordless login via secure, time-limited magic links.

Data Security Measures

We've implemented multiple layers of security to protect your information:

  • Encrypted Data Storage: All data is encrypted at rest in our secure database.
  • Secure Connections: All communication with our servers is encrypted using HTTPS.
  • Token-Based Authentication: We use secure tokens for authentication, reducing the need for password storage.
  • Rate Limiting: Our system includes protection against brute force attacks.
  • CSRF Protection: Cross-Site Request Forgery protection is implemented for all forms.
  • reCAPTCHA Integration: We use reCAPTCHA to prevent automated attacks while maintaining usability.

Information We Don't Collect

Unlike many platforms, we deliberately avoid collecting:

  • Your full name
  • Home address
  • Phone number
  • Government ID numbers
  • IP address tracking for identification
  • Browser fingerprinting
  • Third-party tracking cookies

Optional Information

Some features require minimal information, but these are always optional:

  • Email Address: Only required if you choose to use magic link authentication. We never use your email for marketing.
  • Patient Identifiers: When submitting treatments, you can use any identifier that's meaningful to you — it doesn't have to be your real name.

Data Usage

The information you share about treatments and outcomes is used to:

  • Provide anonymous, searchable treatment experiences for other users
  • Generate aggregated statistics about treatment effectiveness
  • Create charts and visualizations of treatment outcomes
  • Allow you to track your own treatment journey

All data used in analytics is aggregated and anonymized, making it impossible to identify individual users from our reports and dashboards.

Privacy Limitations

While we've designed our system to maximize privacy, we want to be transparent about potential limitations:

  • If you include personally identifiable information within free-text fields (like treatment notes), this information will be stored and potentially visible to others.
  • Very specific combinations of cancer type, treatment, and demographics might theoretically make an individual identifiable in rare cases.
  • In the event of a legal request, we may be required to provide available information to law enforcement.
  • While we use best practices for security, no system can guarantee 100% protection against all potential attacks.

We recommend avoiding entering any personally identifiable information in any field, even when not specifically requested.

Your Data Control

You maintain control over your data in several ways:

  • Editing: You can edit or update your treatment and outcome records at any time.
  • Deletion: You have the ability to delete individual records or your entire account.
  • Data Export: You can export your data in standard formats for your personal records.
  • Password Changes: You can change your password at any time to maintain security.

Policy Changes

We may update this privacy policy as our platform evolves. Any significant changes will be announced on our platform, and the updated policy will be posted on this page.
